CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
A Place Like No Other
Civita di Bagnoregio is an Etruscan village over 2,500 years old, suspended on a tufa rock spur at 443 meters altitude, surrounded by the majestic Valle dei Calanchi. Reachable only on foot across a 300-meter pedestrian bridge, this living fragment of history is home to about 10 people and visited by over one million tourists each year. Its UNESCO candidacy as a Cultural Landscape testifies to a universal value that transcends borders.

Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky
Master Hayao Miyazaki visited Civita in 1990 and was so struck by it that he drew inspiration for his masterpiece "Laputa — Castle in the Sky." The floating island, the silence, the vertigo, the sense of transience: everything in Civita echoes that world suspended between dream and reality. Today, 20% of tourists come from Japan and East Asia, drawn by this bond between animation and living stone.
